Fungus

I finally remembered to take my photo of the day. This is #1/365. Hopefully, I'll be able to keep this up.

I've never seen fungus growing on a Palm tree before and was really surprised to see this one. This is growing up near the growth bulb of a Cabbage Palm.

I probably have never noticed it before because I've never seen the growth bulb of a Palm tree up close. I was in the parking lot where I work in Bradenton, FL and looked out over the ledge of the second floor. There it sat growing on the Palm tree.

There is no identification of this fungus listed because I couldn't find it in any book that I have. I did a quick search on the internet and couldn't find it there, either. I must admit this isn't the prettiest photo I've taken, but I find fungus to be very interesting. I also like the yellow color and lines in this particular variety.

If you can identify it, I'd be most appreciative.

Dawn Sunshine Skyway Bridge

I'm always trying to find a different perspective when I'm photographing a familiar site. The Sunshine Skyway Bridge in Ft Desoto, Tierra Verde, Florida is one of my favorite scenes to photo. Not only because it's the Skyway, but because I love to photograph bridges. I'm always on the lookout for a new one to photograph.

It's strange, I've photographed this bridge, especially at dawn and sunrise, hundreds of times and most of them from the same location on East Beach, and never thought to turn the camera on its side. I was pleasantly pleased with this shot.

Whenever I'm out with my photography students, I tell them to not be a "walk-up-shooter". Spend some time exploring the view; look up, look down, walk all the way around the subject if possible, take shots from near, from far, well you get the idea. I tell them this because it's one of my faults that I'm trying hard to overcome. I'll have to practice what I preach more often.

Flock of Ibis

These sacred and beautiful birds were flying over the bay at the Safety Harbor Marina today just before sunset. I love how the light was hitting them as they flew overhead.

Ibis (Eudocimus albus) were considered sacred and an object of veneration in ancient Egypt. They were even mummified along with Falcons and other sacred animals.

The Ibis is also the last wildlife to take shelter before a hurricane and the first to surface after the storm has hit.
